Hurun was established by Rupert Hoogewerf in London in 1999. In 2012, while studying at the University of Oxford, I met Rupert and successfully contributed to the first Global Rich List for Hurun. He then invited me to head the India operations. Although I had secured a job with the UK's Financial Conduct Authority, my belief in India's potential and my desire to create employment opportunities led me to propose starting Hurun India as my business, as a co-founder. Rupert agreed immediately, and our partnership began.
Our primary purpose is to showcase India's remarkable entrepreneurial story to fellow Indians through data and to demonstrate to the world that India is an exciting place to create value. Our mission is to build a high-integrity platform that recognizes individuals and companies based solely on merit. Our vision is to distribute these stories as widely as possible. I believe that combining integrity in research with effective distribution is a powerful formula.
Hurun's brand in India garners around 2 billion views annually. As the founder of Hurun Lists, I was honored to be included in the Fortune India 40 Under 40 List of 2023. Receiving this recognition from Fortune India, an organization that also compiles lists, is particularly humbling. Our achievements include being the largest compiler of rich lists and startup lists in India, as well as the only compiler of philanthropy and sustainability lists based on UN SDGs. Above all, I am proud that our team has consistently operated with 100% integrity, never offering paid awards or accepting money for articles.
